hey all,

has anyone tried using the Nvidia Shield TV Pro as Plex server?
  1. will it be able to stream 4k content?
  2. will it be able to transcode?
  3. i understand its from 2019. is it smart buying a device that old ?
  4. any other alternatives, drawbacks or thoughts?
thanks!

It has only 16GB of internal storage.
Where are you going to put all your plex media?
On external USB hard drives?

Just install Plex Server on your pc. And keep plex media on internal drive.

This device was designed for people whose TVs did not have any built-in playback capabilities, especially Netflix. The biggest drawback is sound; it does not process any DTS formats (they have to be passed through to another device) or 8 channel TrueHD Dolby (also pass through). Basically that's the same as the Dolby MS12 chip found in most current TVs.

thanks for your reply.

what i mean is to use it as server, not client. basically it'll be serving media to other devices that run plex client.
