using oil as lubricant for case fan

I have 2 hours tonight to clean up my PC and get going for tommorow. As i dont have grease and wanted to clean all the fans , how about using some coconut oil ? I mean it wont cause any problem right ?

? ?? I get noisy fan and give it a shot of WD-40 ?? so far so good I mean if it did not work out I would of had to buy a new fan anyway [just don't go crazy wipe dry all excess you can ] good luck

I never considered coconut oil as a fan lube, but they'll smell good until they spin for long enough. You should use machine oil to lubricate them.

cleaning dust out I use a small semi stiff paint brush or tooth brush for whats harder to just wipe or don't just blow off

in order to "lube" a fan , you'll have to get to the bearing. just spraying it might not do it. White lithium for lube and motivation for cleaning. wear a dust mask as a lot of the dust in pc's is dead skin.

Machine oil, Silicone are good lubes.

A quick google search will tell you what WD-40 is good for. Rust and Cleaning are about it. If you spray a case fan with it the WD-40 would attract dust like a magnet and make a mess.

I'd recommend sewing machine oil.

WD-40 is not a lubricant.

EDIT: It can, in some small circumstances, be used as a very light lube. However.......
1. There are better actual lubes.
2. It may wash out whatever actual lube was in the fan in the first place.

And since we don't really know what the OP is actually doing, this is all speculation.

OK, go right ahead. You lube your fans with WD-40. Me, I'd prefer to use something a bit more suited to the purpose.

Yea... I don't trust their recommendations.

Every time I tried WD-40 on a fan, it'd start making noise again after a few weeks.
Long term solution would be Oil or Silicone.

No to the coconut oil, do it right the first time.

Cleaning the fan should not require new lubrication. Unless you completely dunk it in soapy water.
Lube only if it is noisy.

No to the coconut oil, do it right the first time.

Makes some noise . IM going full clean up tonight . changing thermal paste . almost re assembling the pc . cleaning up everything and then lubing stuff

Buy a new fan, problem solved. it will cost less than buying the lubricant.
