I just recently installed a SSD in my older pc (3-4 years old) running windows 8.1. It booted up fine after following suggested steps, but when I went into bios to check the disk mode setting, I found it was set to Raid. I changed it to AHCI and the system refused to boot (disk error.
I went back and set it to Raid and it booted fine. Of course, I'm not going to run IDE, but does the Raid option give me AHCI performance, as noted in some of the threads here?
I am not running raid, just the SSD and a 7200rpm HD.
