Good day. I have an mweb TG589vn v3 as my main router connected to the computer. I then connected it with an ethernet cable to a telkom mega 100WR router in another part of the house, in the hopes to extend the wifi signal. This has worked but at random times, the internet will be very slow. I believe it can be 1 of 2 things: 1. The settings of the telkom mega 100WR is interferring with the mweb router as i have not changed any settings on the telkom router. 2. Neighbours are using my internet as there is no password. I would like to know how to resolve these issues. I have tried connecting the telkom router to my main computer to change the settings. I turned it into bridge mode and put on a password, but as soon as i move the router to the other room the settings will not be applied. As a result the password doesnt stay on.
Any solutions? Thank You

Use just one PC to do it, like a laptop if you have one. Go into the network control panel, change adapter settings, select the wired adapter (since you should do this with a cable to the AP), highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 in the white window and select properties. In the first tab change it from "obtain an IP address automatically" to use the following address and then enter 10.0.0.3 and 255.255.255.0 on the first two lines. Then you will be able to connect to the device.

Just go through all that and change the computer back to automatically obtain an address when done.
Okay summary: mweb TG589vn v3 is main router and telkom mega 100WR is supposed to be an access point (AP). I would get a cheap TP-Link router in place of the telkom mega 100WR, as DSL gateways do not usually work well as APs compared to simple routers.

In any case, the AP should be attached to the main router by a cable (LAN port to LAN port), AP should have DHCP turned off, and should have a network address in the range of the main router but not in its DHCP assignment range, should use a different non-overlapping radio channel (selecting from 1, 6, and 11 in most areas).

You also must use WPA2/AES security on both devices along with good passwords to get into the device configuration pages in order to keep others from using up your bandwidth.

Thanks for the reply
I am not looking to buy any other device as the router as an access point does work. So what i tried is connecting the telkom router to my main computer and accessing its setting. There i have turned off DHCP and put on a password and made sure to save the settings and restart the access point on the router. The problem is that when i return the telkom router to the other room and turn it on, the password is not on. So the settings does not want to save...

Ok i have tried that but i am not able to access the telkom router's settings(10.0.0.2) on that computer for some reason. I am only able to log into the 192.168.1.1 sttings even though it is a telkom router.

It may not be capable of the change, but if it is you would have to log in to the 10.0.0.2 address with a computer that is temporarily given a static address in that range (like 10.0.0.3) as they must both be in the same range. Then make the changes. Once made the computer will have to be reverted to its old "get automatic address" setting.

Ok i see. I'm not very good with computers, can you maybe tell me how to do this. Should i disconnect the internet on the main mweb router. then try configue the telkom router at the other pc? what values do i put in when changing the static adresses , default gateway and other settings

Push the “Windows” key and and also the R button on your pc keyboard together. This WINDOWS key commonly has an image of the Microsoft Windows company logo. This will start the Run window. Once the RUN window opens enter CMD. After you click OK, the actual Command prompt will appear. In case this technique isn't working, an alternative technique is to enter "cmd" into the Search bar in the Start menu and after that push the Enter button.

Step 2. Inside the Command prompt write 'ipconfig' and push the Enter key on the keyboard. A lot of info will appear. Scroll down till you find the Default Gateway. The sequence of figures right after the line (192.168.0.1 in this instance) will be the Ip of the wireless router.

You can find more information on http://www.ipaddressdefinition.com/192-168-0-1/

His issue is that his network is 192.168.1.0 but his AP default value is 10.0.0.0, so he needs to set a computer to that network range to log in and change the AP settings. He is not having difficulty finding his network address.
