Using second PCI-E slot on M5A97 R2.0

Hello,

I want to use the second PCI slot on my board instead of the first one. Is this possible without changing some settings or can this second slot not be used by default settings?

I am talking about the black slot instead of the blue one:

It will be possible, I just don't think your motherboard will do SLI and Crossfire though if your thinking of doing it

Okay, thank you for your answer. The thing is: I don't want SLI or Crossfire here, I want my GTX980 to work in the second slot without a second card. The reason is that I want to draw heat away from the northbridge, since GPU and the Northbrigde are almost touching each other on this board, which makes the northbrigde awful how when the card reachis 75° under stress

My idea was to put it in the lower slot.

all good, the gpu will work in the second slot however if the bottom is a pci express 2.0 and the top is 3.0 the GPU may run a bit slower. Although it looks like they are both pci express 3.0
So overall the GPU will work in the 2nd pci express slot
