So, I am building a custom PC (http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/qtL6xr) to game 4K with (hopefully) at least 60 FPS (G-Sync monitor in case I can't). I want to record 1080p gameplay with Shadowplay, but I don't know how big of a performance hit I will get since I am using SLI/Gaming at 4K. Can anyone offer some input? Thanks!

Performance starts to drop once you put more than 2 cards, though Maxwell has shown a big improvement in scaling. Performance on 4K with 2 980s on max settings would yeld you 40 ish fps in the more intensive games.... Again, if money was not a problem, I'd still pick the ROG Swift.

Well, I can't promise you 60fps on all games while recording, but in most of them yes, that's plausible.

Would you go with 4K 60hz G-Sync or 1440p 120/144hz G-Sync for Gaming/Recording?

I'd VERY much prefer the 1440p 144Hz G-Sync, since it's nicer than the regular 1080p, and it has a higher refresh rate. If that's the route you're going to take, I don't think a GTX 980 would be appropriated, maybe 970SLI...... though you do want more than 120fps on all games if possible..... nevermind then.

Oh, and by the way, 4K is indeed very nice, but for me it's still not worth getting (high prices and refresh rate mainly).

Thank you for your help. The reason I need advice is because I can get a 24" BenQ 1080p G-Sync Monitor (144hz) for approx $685 shipping included, the ROG Swift 27" 1440p G-Sync Monitor (144hz) for about $1100 shipping included or an Acer 28" 4K (60hz) G-Sync Monitor for about $910 shipping included. I could also get an Acer 27" 1080p G-Sync Monitor (144hz) for $680. Which of these would you recommend? Please assume money for Monitor/GPU for its resolution is not a problem.
Also, if I were to go 4K, would 2-way SLI GTX 980s do just fine? Or would I need 3-way for the best performance?
