Some of my friends have been arguing over the proper pronunciation of Windows Vista:

So is it Veesta (with long e sound) or is it Vissta (Like Fista)?

Solution
people who think its veesta are noobs....its vissta...like a "view: the visual percept of a region; "the most desirable feature of the park are the beautiful views"..the dictionary deffinition...uve heard that word before

Yes, but I think what they are saying is that "veesta" was the first, original way to pronounce it, and it's not unheard of for us to pronounce romance-language words in their original form. For example, do we say caf-AY or CAFE when we pronounce "café"? Do we say "BAL-et" or "bal-AY"? "ROW-dee-oh Drive" or "Row-DAY-oh Drive"? Not a stupid or "nooby" thing to ask. If anything, it's a good question that an intellectual well versed in other language pronunciations might ask. Opposite of noob.

But yes, in our dictionaries and on the Windows commercials, it is pronounced "vissta"
