Hi, I don't know if anyone's logged on this December 31st, but I'm trying. It's been several months now that when I play my pc crash and a BSOD screen appears with the indication: Thread Stuck In device driver. Then, I have to turn it off at the button otherwise it continues to run (fans, processor, etc ...) but with the screens off. Then, I noticed that on my motherboard the Ez Debug led was on continuously on Vga after the crash which means (according to my research) that my GPU is not detected anymore. That's where I am now. (all my drivers are up to date)
Here's my config (all the parts are 1 year old or less except the ram which is a bit older):
https://www.driverscloud.com/fr/configuration/61344225-1/resume

What I've tried:
  • Reinstall Windows
  • Reinstall the drivers cleanly
-Undervolt, change my gpu/processor settings
- I had seen on a forum that flashing the Bios of his Msi RX Vega 56 in Sapphire Vega 56 nitro + had solved the problem but I couldn't reproduce the operation.

If you have ideas I'm interested :)
Thanks, happy holidays

Thread stuck in driver normally indicates (as per the name) an issue with the driver.

When installing the drivers, did you unzip the downloaded file? I caused the exact same issue for my computer before and unzipping the file made it work properly again.

This guide may help with alternate solutions: https://www.techclassy.com/thread-stuck-device-driver/
Thanks for your answer. I'll try now but i've installed my drivers with Driver Booster or directly from the AMD Radeon Settings in the past. You think i need to install them manually and from the constructor website ?

So I followed the advice to fix the Thread Stuck In Device driver errors and I came to use the Blue Screen View software to analyze my BSODs. That's what I get :

https://prnt.sc/qi5n06

So the problem would be this driver? Did I need to reinstall it ?
Thanks for your help :)

I would reinstall it. I've had to install them manually before. Make sure you install the non-beta version of the drivers as they'll be more stable :)

GPU not being detected suggests that it may be the GPU drivers as opposed to anything else. If reinstalling the drivers doesn't work, can you give me a list of the names of at least the motherboard and the GPU so I can see if there are any potential issues (I check this via PCPartPicker)? :)

Here is :

(my power supply is a 700W version and my ram is a crucial but you know no-name and my motherboard is compatible with AMD 2nd generation).

And in the past I have reinstalled my drivers and windows several times but the crashes have continued.

I want to say trying to update the BIOS but I don't want to be responsible if it fries the motherboard as it's something that I've never suggested before but have done to my own computer.

PCPartPicker does say a BIOS update may be needed but you'll need to check if newer BIOS versions do support your CPU etc.

Before doing anything with the BIOS, do try installing the drivers yourself manually. Maybe try the oldest version available.

I do highly suspect it is the BIOS that is the issue though, and it was what I did want to suggest before PCPartPicker said the same again, but it is at your own risk.

There is no problem, I have already updated my bios several times, I know how to do it. However, I don't know if it can be interesting to reset it to its factory settings before reinstalling the most recent bios to avoid any problems.
I will first try to install the drivers. Do you advise me to use DDU ?
Thanks

Ah okay, its good to know that you have already tried updating BIOS but obviously not good that it hasn't solved the issue.

I've not used a DDU myself so I would do some research on it beforehand (e.g. risks etc).

If reinstalling the drivers doesn't work, I would RMA the GPU.

I actually had a Vega 56 before (it was the reason why I joined this forum!) and I had issues with it but never BSOD's, just black screening. Ended up getting another GPU and my computer has been mostly fine since then.

No ameliorations. I think i will resend the GPU soon.

Thanks for your help :)

Ah, that's no good but at least you can give that as something else you've tried.

If its not less than a month old, they will probably ask you to send it for testing rather than just send you a new one. Please do keep me updated with the results of the testing if this is the case as I have a sneaking suspicion that they may say nothing's wrong with it (this is what happened with mine both times it was sent for testing. Worked fine in another machine so it was some very strange incompatibility).

If they do say that, I would sell on the GPU and get a Nvidia one as they have better driver support.
