Vega 64 or GTX 1080

What should I buy a GTX 1080 or Vega 64. Both models I would buy are about the same price the Vega 64 at $500 and the 1080 at $450. This is a tough decision because I have a free sync monitor and the Vega comes with a game bundle; however the GTX 1080 seems to be the better overall card. If I were to buy the GTX 1080 I most likely would also buy Assassins Creed Odyssey which makes the 1080 more like $510. I also may need to upgrade my power supply for Vega because currently I only have a 600watt psu and amd reccomends a 750 watt. What would you reccomend?

Edit: I ended up buying the 1080 because newegg actually had a promotion deal for it making it even cheaper $430 with a $20 steam gift card which just seems like an overall better deal than the Vega 64. Also it seems like the Vega card is having supply issues. If I were to go the Vega route I may have to wait for more supply which would not be ideal.Thank you for all of the good responses!

I'd go with the 1080. I prefer Nvidia over AMD.

The 1080 usually does a little better and costs less so that is the one most people go with. However, both cards will handle 1440p and 1080p really well so I could see making the decision to go with Vega so you can make use of Freesync. Now that I’ve had a Gsync monitor for a couple years I would never want to be without one of the adaptive sync technologies.

I went from an R9 fury to a gtx 1080 whilst having a freesync monitor. To be honest I have not seem any noticeable difference-it could be that I'm getting old and screen tearing is not obvious to me anymore. Between the two cards you will find the 1080 to be a tad better in some games whilst the vega card will get the upper hand in others. The big difference between the two is temperatures and power consumption. My 1080 strix is icy cool under load while being very power efficient. The Vega series though will require you to tinker with undervolting them to get the most out of them.

With the current $499 deal on Newegg for the RX Vega 64 Sapphire Nitro+ Edition + 3 Free Games, not to mention you have a FreeSync Display, seems a no brainer to me... Performance between it and the 1080 varies from game to game. It does have worse power efficiency but the Nitro+ is a great card. From reviews, your PSU should be fine with the non-LC Vega 64 if it's a well-rated & efficient supply and the rest of your system isn't too power hungry. And as already mentioned, modest undervolting is fairly do-able with Vega 64s without much limitation to performance. People seem to be recommending the 1080 simply because they have one, but with your Monitor the Vega 64 is a worthy choice for sure. Hope this helps!

What PSU do you have?

We need to look at that before you even think about getting either one of those GPU's.

Doesn't matter, I would replace it with a better quality unit if you are thinking about getting either one of those graphics cards.

If a GTX 1080... A good quality 650W PSU like:

Seasonic Focus Plus
Corsair RMX
EVGA Supernova G2 or G3

If the Vega 64 and 750W PSU, above units, but 750W.
