Question Veracrypt- Can you "Encrypt in place" a drive with files

Hi everyone. I use Veracrypt and just wondering can you encrypt a hard drive with files already on it "encrypt in place" i read a article in a computer mag and it said you can but i cant find anywhere when choosing a drive already with data except for the usual encrypt and destroy all files on it and start fresh sort of thing

I was playing with Vera the other day, and it wanted to format whatever size I chose, to make a new volume, encrypted.
This was on a drive with a single folder and file.

Whatever path you choose, have a FULL backup of all data, just in case.
If it works, great.
If it does not, you have a fall back position.
