Before I got this Acer Aspire E14, I was reading articles about i3s superiority over AMD cpus because of Hyperthreading Technology's presence on Intel cpu for 2 years.

But what the hell when I got this laptop with i5 4210U HT enabled, it's lag and slow on switching from windows to windows. I play this online game (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OnXidh1i14) which needs Pentium 4 2.ghz and Nvidia gt 8800. As I play it on my laptop, it's graphics is glitchy, kinda slow. And when I switch to Google Chrome from my window-mode online game, it slows. Also, When I was creating an avatar, or creating appearance of my character, THE GAME CRASHED (not responding), which I didn't experience on my desktop. My CPU of desktop is much reliable. My 3-year-old Athlon II x3 450 @3.2ghz is very much noticeably faster than my i5 4210 HT Enabled ~.~ I expected too high on this HT. I thought it's good at multi-tasking.

I'm planning to OC this i5 4210U (turbo up to 2.7ghz from 1.7ghz) to only at least 2.0Ghz to make sure it's safe. Is it possible to oc this to only 2.0 or 2.1ghz??

I havent OC before, how to overclock?
What safety measure do I need to take?
And what should I NOT DO?
Do I need to buy laptop cooler?

(Off topic: What's the difference between i3 laptop cpus and i5 cpus when i5 cpus have dual core only?)

I didn't buy it. My dad exchanged the Ipad Air 16gb into this laptop he won from a raffle. Is it worth it?

I'm sure it's useful for trolling the THW forums with idiotic topics.

I agree, likely ram not being enough coupled with a slow hdd. It's also pointless to compare any laptop to a desktop for performance whether amd or intel. It's like saying 'performance economy car'. For a laptop it might not be bad, for a desktop eh.. but they're apples and oranges. If someone doesn't need the portability and long battery life and they need the performance, they need a desktop not a laptop.

THIS MESSAGE IS FOR EVERYONE ALSO.
Frequency is basis in gaming? 1.6ghz intel i5 dual core vs 3.2ghz amd x4

I was planning to switch my desktop CPU and MOBO to intel i3 4150 and intel-based motherboard. But as soon as I read your chat. I think I'm gonna change my plan of getting FX 6300 instead of i3 4150. MY friend was the one who recommended me i3 4150 because it has higher temperature limit.

Anyway, in gaming laptops, is there laptop with AMD cpu + nvidia gpu?

Frequency is part of the puzzle. Efficiency is another part. You can't tell the exact performance from core count and frequency. The only reason I mentioned it is because the difference between 1.7 GHz on your laptop and 3.2 on your desktop is pretty big. To really get an idea, look at benchmarks. In general, newer CPUs are faster at the same frequency at real world tasks, and Intel is more efficient than AMD (faster for a certain frequency and same number of cores)

WINDOW PROBLEM. SCREEN FLICKERS.

Sometimes on background, there's no flickerings, sometimes there are.. BUT when I open this online game browser, the flickerings 100% chance appears. But when the game starts, it disappears

Which should I download? This laptop is supposed to have Windows 8.1 (this has also window key, the logo of window phone, you get what I mean?), but it's running on 64-bit windowns 7??

Is the software updates of Intel graphics more reliable than AMD and Nvidias'? Might become much more glitchy if I install the update

Youre saying I should replace the HDD inside the laptop with a SDD?? If I replaced it, what will I do to my laptop HDD?

Trade it for a pack of cigarettes. You're never too old to start smoking.

My only problem on buying Intel is that Im gonna need to buy newer H97 atx intel-support motherboard. More expensive than buying Fx6300 + Cpu cooler.

I dont smoke. I have unhealthy body. I don't even eat vegetables. Smoking wont help. Anyway. Any brand and model of SDD to recommend? Will buy the 256gb, or the cheap ones..

What kind of RAM should I buy?

tech, I downloaded the 2nd option, because my Windows is 64 bit. When I installed it, it slowed my game. So I uninstallled it from the "Uninstall program" But when I uninstalled it, it so happened that I uninstalled the entire driver of the HD 4400, now Intel HD didn't appear on my dxdiag under Graphics. So I installed the latest driver again. How can I uninstall the half of the driver, letting the original/first driver alone/unaltered?

I installed the entire driver again. How can I uninstall the latest one? So my game would originally be back, it's okay if it has flickers sometimes, but I don't want my game this slow.

If the update had caused problems, you could have rolled back the driver without uninstalling it entirely. In the device manager, under Properties, in the Driver tab the option to roll back is there. That won't be possible now that you've done a fresh installation, so you might search old copies of the driver which show up as "previously released" at the Intel support site.

I've found the previously released. Should I uninstall the entire graphics driver and install this one? Or should I just install this "previous release" without uninstalling the "Latest"?
