Hello!

So i have noticed an issue with my laptop recently.
It seems that the CPU usage gets heavy overloaded from barely doing anything.

I formated my laptop yesterday and the problem is still there.
Just booting into windows will make the CPU usage go up in the +70% and the fan goes crazy.
Starting Google Chrome makes the CPU go crazy as well.
It seems anything i do, CPU goes into overload. I tried starting a few games and it seems the CPU usage goes very high while the GPU is around 10-30%.

My laptop is:
ASUS FX503VM-DM042T 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop - (Black) (Intel i5-7300HQ Processor, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD + 128GB SSD, Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB Dedicated Graphics, Windows 10).

Temps from only opening Google Chrome after a reboot:

These are the temps from only having HWmonitor on. It seems to be very high still.
The CPU usage bumps in the graph is from opening battery options.

I did tests changing between high performance and balanced but there is no difference. And the issue was before i changed to high performance yesterday.

Please, if anyone have any idea what i could do to fix this problem, id very appreciate it.
Thanks!

Solution
Try opening up the resource monitor and sort it by the "average cpu" column (last column in the link pics) and see if you can catch whatever process in the act - although in that pic it seems quite normal for typical windows use

since it's an older laptop it is also possible the fan is starting to fail and has probs keeping the temps lower, I would disassemble and at least give it a good cleaning... If cleaning it out does not help may be good to replace the fan - a cooling pad would be good to use in the interim

Oh really, im so used to my desktop that the temp felt so high here. Is it really normal to get a bump up to 85C with only chrome open? Thats opening chrome with only one tab.

Ill also try to open it up and clean it. Havent done it since i bought the laptop (about 3 years ago).
I read that the laptop have 2 slots for ram. Can it help with adding another ram stick and upping from 8gb to say 16gb?
Thanks!

excellent, and yes getting it up to 16gb will help a bit and memory prices are not too bad so why not, the old i7 / 1060 has some fight left in it for sure

Cheers!
Aah! I checked out different ram and im not exactly 100% how it works. Im guessing its 1 ram stick x8 gb atm. Can i just add another 8gb ram stick or do i have to change both, or add 1 x16gb? Does it have to be the same brand?
I have no idea how i can find exactly what kind of ram im using atm.
I found this:
https://www.datamemorysystems.com/dms-memory/asustek-computer/fx503vm-dm042t.htm

Does it mean it has to be DDR4-2400 PC4-19200 2048x64 CL17 1.2V 260 Pin SODIMM?

Thanks again!

-----Edit.
So i tried running Black Desert Online to test temps.
From fresh install, i think it was on high or medium on graphic presets. It ran pretty smooth but holy jesus the temps spiked up!

Is that really normal?
Im closing laptop for a bit now and then opening to remove dust etc!

so yes you should be able to add a 2nd 8gb sodimm to get it in dual-channel and 16gb

laptops do run hot so I always recommend a cooling pad, will also help save your laptop fans life - I use a Thermaltake V20 pretty decent for $25

Managed to open the laptop but there was very little dust.
Yes i might get a cooling pad, but for traveling its a little bit unpractical. Although the cooling pad could be used at home. Will check it out.
I still feel these temperatures are very high. I remember the specs saying the cpu can handle max 100C, and i managed to reach 98C at max. Do you think there are other issues that are causing this though?

If i keep running my laptop around 85C for a long time, wont it cause any damage?

Thanks!
