Hi all,
I've got a Lenovo G500s laptop (15.6", i3, 8gb HyperX Impact, Seagate 500gb 5400rpm, Kingston kc300 120GB SSD) and recently it has been very slow to start up after shut down. It can take between 90s up to even 150s to boot. (This is an estimate, I've not timed it properly)

I recently put in an SSD, about 4 months ago, and obviously it sped boot times up massively, down to around 15s, but even the original HDD was quicker than it is now.

I have noticed however, if I remove the secondary HDD (The original 500gb drive which is now in a caddy in place of the OD) before booting, this problem does not occur. This is not ideal however, as I need to access my data and don't want to lug around an external drive.

Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks :)

Sounds like then that the hard drive is on its last leg and your bios is staling for a very long time trying to mount and recognize the drive.

I would replace drive as soon as possible.

I did, I formatted it, and wiped the drive clean after the SSD was installed, and proceeded to put other files and documents on it. I've also checked the BIOS and the boot order is with the SSD first. I should also add that when I can access the HDD, it loads things fairly quickly, at standard HDD speeds. Just the boot that is the issue.

I've timed it today: It takes between 130-140 seconds with the SSD & 2nd HDD connected, and also a new problem has arisen: once in the desktop it now doesn't show up at all in my computer, and I can't access files from shortcuts etc. It's like the laptop has timed out trying to load the HDD after this time period and just boots to win 8 anyway.

With just the SSD and nothing else, 12 seconds boot time. So clearly the hard drive is to blame. I don't really want to fork out for a new one, but I guess I'll have to if this persists, probably a faster & bigger 1TB 7200rpm drive. Just hope I can retrieve my data.
