VGA DVI no signal?

So I have been seeing so others having this problem too but I can really understand if anyone got it working?

So heres my situation: I have a Tv screen standing around and I felt like trying to hook it up to my pc.
The pc has 1 hdmi port wich is in use for my first monitor and 2 different looking dvi slots.
So I went out and purchased a dvi to vga adapter and a dvi cable and tried hooking up my tv screen but it just says "no signal" Im no computer expert but im not completely lost 😀
But this I really dont understand any help would be super nice, I can come with more info if needed

Are you saying you only have VGA on the TV??

yes my hdmi is connected to my monitor and that is working just fine

no I do have hdmi on the tv too but I only have 1 hdmi output on my computer.

The graphics card is: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series

Also I dont thinks its wrong with the tv beacuse I can use the hdmi for the tv and it works

You should have gone with a dvi-d to hdmi cable mate - it would have made things far easier.
What card exactly ?? 7850/7870?? What model??
Have you checked in catalyst at the multi screen setup (advanced settings/displays tab);- using an analog connection as the second screen you may have to enable it manually

Do you have a link to the cable you bought?

Disconnect the HDMI and connect only the DVI to VGA. Set VGA as input to the TV.

Im sorry I dont know how to check wich exact model the graphics card is, maybe you know a way?

Catalyst doesnt detect the tv, but when I plug the vga/dvi cable into my first monitor at the same time as the HDMI it seems to recognize it as a second monitor

The dvi-vga adapter is fine but you've bought a dvi-d (digital only) cable - it has less pins & the pinout is completely different.
A dvd-d male cable will fit in a dvi-i female socket but a dvi-i won't fit in a dvi-d socket as it has more pins.
Either way you won't get a signal .

I really appreciated your help and I went to the store today and got the cable changed for a dvi-d to HDMI cable
Its working great, I will also return the adapter soon.
