VGA not fitting into GPU

Yeah, I really don't get this. I have a VGA connector where one side works perfectly but the other is split, it has 3 x 3 pins and another part that is 1 x 1 that doesn't fit. All of my vga cords are like this. I notice that the one that works has a square shape, while the split doesn't.

How do I fix this...

This doesn't make sense can you post a picture?

This is a VGA connector, if it doesn't look like that its not VGA

No, this is the cord that comes with your PSU for your motherboard. It has "VGA" printed right on top of it.

I actually figured it out though, there was plastic on the side that I had to file down, it fits now :)

HOLD ON AND STOP RIGHT THERE DO NOT CONNECT THAT TO YOUR MOTHERBOARD

That is NOT the connector that belongs in your motherboard, that is for powering a video card and it is set up that way so it specifically does not fit into your motherboard.

THere should be an 8 pin connector or a 4pin + 4pin connector that goes into the plug on your motherboard. ONLY use this. I hope you see this post before you try to start up the computer!

Huh? Are you sure? There's nothing else that fits, and I'm 99% positive that this is the same cord that I used last time for my build. I did turn it on and everything lights up (GPU and everything).

Yeah, the ONLY thing I have left out of the PSU box is a spare CPU, SATA, PERIF (which is completely different), and 3 VGA cords which again, fit, despite a little plastic on the side of the design.

Edit, I reread your post more clearly - No, this isn't a mobo connector, it goes from the GPU straight into the power supply.

He is sure and I am sure

you have connected a pci-e 8 pin to your motherboard and if you try and start it will probably destroy your board

You said "PSU for your motherboard" so I replied because my assumption was you were plugging this into your Motherboard which has an 8 pin plug that looks just like the 6+2 that your GPU uses. Had you done that damage likely would have ensued.

Yes the cable you used is correct for your GPU, now that I understand everything you are doing and what your issue was, that little tab is used to hook the 6 pin and the 2 pin together and you likely were putting them in backwards which prevented the 2 pin from going in all the way. You didn't need to file it off, but it works so you're fine.

So yes, alarm cancelled. Gotta be careful how you word things

Again, I'm not sure if I should take what you say literally or not. Nothing is going straight into the motherboard.

Nothing is upside down. The connector that isn't split (on the far left) fits perfectly either in my GPU or PSU. It's the one on the right that is not fitting due to a tiny piece of plastic that is sticking out at the base of it, not the connector side.

If this isn't the right cord, then what else is there? There's literally no other cord for the GPU

Phew, you were scaring me 😀

So this is a PCI-e cord then? It does say VGA on it... strange.
