VGA to DVI-D adapter not working

Hi, I am trying to connect my SyncMaster2023NW monitor to my MSI Tomahawk z270 motherboard using a VGA to DVI-D adapter. But the monitor just displays the same message it does when it's not connected to anything. I do have the latest drivers installed for my motherboard. Any help would be appreciated.

What's the brand of the adapter? Is it bi-directional? Are you sure it's VGA (computer) to DVI-D (monitor)?

Output on mobo is dvi-d, input on monitor is vga only.
You need active dvi to vga adapter for that.
