VGA to HDMI won't work please help

I just purchased a vga to hdmi and it won't work, my monitor just says no signal.. i had to purchase the converter because my monitor doesn't have hdmi. The problem might be that it's using too high resolution for the monitor, but I have no clue. Also i'm plugging it into a gtx 970 and I want to use this other monitor for dual monitors

I figured out the problem, I was right, the resolution wasn't changing to the monitor's resolution, to fix it all i had to do was change the hdmi resolution with the other monitor and then unplug it and plug it into the monitor i wanted to use for my second monitor
