VGA to HDMI

I've just bought a Dell Dell Ultra Sharp U2415 24" IPS monitor to replace my Dell E196FP which has a VGA connection, but the new Dell has a HDMI connection. What do I need to buy to make a connection and get super definition? Any help,please?

I'm guessing your computer only has VGA output? If that is the case you will need a VGA to HDMI converter, these run a much higher price than a simple adapter because you are going from analog to digital. From the reviews I have seen on several of these products though they are not very good.

Ideally you would want digital to digital, so if your computer has a DVI output this would be better than using VGA.

There wouldn't be much point in doing that, you would still need to get an expensive VGA to DVI converter, and your asking for trouble when you convert more than once.

try looking at the lower end NVidia GPUs. a GeForce GT 720 is about $50 on newegg and not only does it have HDMI input, it will give your computer a performance boost also. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487062 here's one from EVGA that's about $50. your computer will perform much faster as a double advantage of having this card for your display. with this card you can connect to almost any type of display (excluding DisplayPort displays I think) as it has three of the four different types of display connections. If you want even MORE performance, the GTX 750 offers. It may be a little more than double the price (~$120), but it includes displayport, and also has SO MUCH POWER that I use a GTX 750 personally for heavy gaming. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487027 this is one of the GTX 750 products also by EVGA, it doesn't include VGA on the card (not enough space to put it in on top of the other ports and the airflow slits) but includes an adapter that goes over the DVI port. This is a similar model to what I use (I managed to get an unreleased version of one of their GTX750 offerings somehow), and i must tell you that this card PERFORMS (I use it for resource intensive games like BattleField 3 and similar games). However which card you get is your choice and I can only recommend cards to you. the GTX 750 is the better bang for your buck but if you're really trying to stay low on price and you really just want something that is able to connect to your display, the GT 720 is a little overpriced in comparison but it will connect to your display. Either one you choose will definitely give you a performance improvement. with vga only I assume you're using either onboard graphics or a really really outdated gpu. even if you had an HDMI port already the computer would barely be able to drive the display with something as bad as that. You went and bought a fancy display without considering your computer's ability to handle it... I would've done the same thing once upon a time lol. Also, you will have to open your computer to install these items, I wonder if your computer even has a PCI-e slot. before you consider buying one of these cards, open up your computer and take a couple of pictures and upload them to imgur or some other image uploading site and post the links here so I know whether either of the card will work and whether I should recommend a different card to you or not.
