vga to hdmi

My monitor has VGA and DVI ports only. My PC has VGA and HDMI ports only. If i use a VGA-to-HDMI adapter on the PC side, but keep the VGA connection on the Monitor side, then do i still only have VGA connectivity? (meaning, analog connection only).

Its better to go with HDMI to DVI converter.

that what i do also i have lower end samsung monitors that only support dvi and vga with a gtx 1080. I know I know i need new monitors but i just upgraded my cpu. Anyways get a dvi to hdmi adapter.

I appreciate all of the helpful insight. But I'm not certain that anyone actually answered my question, which was: If i do use the config that i mentioned, would i be running analog or digital?

it would be analog if your using any conversion within your wires it most of time uses the lowest resolution or uses analog because of the dvi connection.
