What is a .vhd file? It eats a lot of my hdd space, about 60gb out of my 250gb D drive. Can I safely remove this or perhaps compress the file/s to an acceptable amount of gb?

I know it's a simple feature for you but for an average Joe like me who's been using Windows XP for the past 10 years, this ain't simple. That is why I posted for help. I apologize if it seems like I'm waiting for someone to spoon feed me. I'm just asking for a simplified explanation and steps. Still, my apologies fowang.

Just read the whole page and from what I understand, my OS creates this .VHD file whenever I back up my files, but does it really take a large part of my drive?

This is different from System Restore right?

Can I remove it? If I can, what would be the implications/disadvantage?
