Question VHS capstan motor doesn't work

My VCR (Samsung VK-1260) stopped working and I decided to investigate. After running it open I've noticed that the capstan motor doesn't spin at all. It doesn't even turn to put the tape back into the cassette, the VCR just ejects it while the tape is still in. After I hit play/RW/FF the display shows that it's doing it but it isn't and shuts down after about 5 seconds. How can I fix this and what causes it?

Another minor problem is that I can't find the user manual anywhere online, but that's not my priority here.

My guess is that a censor or microswitch are dusty or corroded. Those motors very seldom fails themself.

Does the motor spins freely when the unit is powered off ?

All mechanical machines need at some point refurb and the moving parts cleaned and re-lube.

If you are lucky, is just a worn belt, a direct-drive motor not turning sounds like bad news.

Yes, it does indeed spin when unplugged. Where are the microswitches located? And which sensors should I check and how? Thank you a lot, this put me on the right path of pinning down the problem but I don't know how to check these.
