VIA USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 0096 (Microsoft)

Hey guys, I just recently upgraded from windows 7 to 8 and then 8.1. I am missing this one driver. My USB 3.0 ports in the back currently arent working. I have a Gigabyte X79S-UP5-WiFi Motherboard with a i7 3930K. Here is what I am seeing. http://gyazo.com/53793fb0d207da8c60c11c942f9e42f5

No I installed a driver from the VIA website with no luck I then uninstalled it. Could you send me a link to the driver?

I went to the website and downloaded the 3.0 drivers. Nothing. I then also downloaded the VIA drivers. Still nothing. When I restarted it popped up saying its installing a driver for a unknown device and then it said it failed.

My solution, which is fundamentally crap, is as follows:

Be sure to have a dual boot to a Windows 7 install. Reboot into windows 7, reboot again back to Windows 8 - et voila your USB3 driver works....

Unfortunately the next reboot into windows8: the driver fails to load properly..... So if anyone has any suggestions???

I also tried switching off the fast boot option of Windows 8 but to no avail.

I am using the same motherboard as you and have almost the same specifications. Unfortunately, I don't seem to have the same issue as you do:

I am currently facing issues with my USB 3.0 disconnecting and reconnecting intermittently, but I do not think this would be a problem for you.

After wrestling forever with the issue of the card intermittently coming in and out (mostly out) I think I nailed it down to the PCI-E slots.

either the USB 3.0 card is in an older PCI-E x1 slot or (in my case) the dual graphics adapters I had running in SLI/CrossFire mode reduced the speed of the other PCI-E slots so that the slot was super saturated when it tried to run at USB 3.0 speeds.

long story short, try switching it to another PCI-E slot.
