Viable choice for OCing the a64 3800?

My wife "MAY" let me upgrade to a better system, she'll get my current rig, and I was thinking of another Athlong system. I was wanting to get the a64 3800 Venice core and OC it to the 4000 since there seems to be a huge price gap between those for the performace.

What seems to be the best MoBo out there right now that will allow you to fry you CPU in peace? Thanks.

That should be fairly easy. The best overclocking mobo is the DFI nf4 Ultra. You could save some money and go with something slower and stilla ttain the 400-+ fairly easily with good aire cooling.

Oh and dont tell me your wife is charge of the finance! 😱

But seriously go with a nf4 Ultra chipset . Most recommanded boards are from epox and DFI. DFI has the edge in overclocking capability. You could use some OCZ Gold VX. With proper voltage(the dfi can provide alot!) you can reach DDR500 at 2-2-2-5 no problem.

The DFI nforce 4 ultra is probably the best for OCing, but I agree with labby that you can get a cheaper CPU and still get to 4000+ numbers. You could put the saved money towards a 7800. That video card is in some cases as fast as 2 6800 in SLI.

No... but I bought some shares yesterday... so everyone go out and buy some MSI mobos...

I actually don't know why I am so keen on people trying the MSI board. I guess it all stems from the fact that I actually want to try it. I have just built 3 rigs with the DFI LP NF4 and built one with the Epox, I just haven't tried the MSI. I will be building another one in a week or two though, and I will use it for that one.

Just realised I have a MSI video card!
WOOOHOOO go MSI!!!

The card is like the reference but with a custom logo on the fan(by custom I mean not a sticker). The tool they provide to monitor clock and stuff is based on a web browser ActiveX or whatever dont even think its flash and its freakin ugly!..But it works.
And wooopsy we're in the cpu section... and im hijacking the thread

Both have easy set up, and good layout. I don't really like the floppy IDE port on the DFI being a horizontal plug, but its not a big deal and it would never make me think twice about buying the board. I had a DFI board that came once and didn't have the propper pin config for the USB ports... it was odd, I sent it back and they sent me a new one with a letter saying they don't know how the heck that happened

But the DFI is a far better OC board, not only for performance/stability but also for the ease of OCing. This is a big perk when a client asks me to OC, because I don't waste too much time here. But the Epox board is very good for the price, and if I am not OCing I always have to think long and hard before I make my choice.
