Corsair cx430 (power)
Asus geforce gtx 650 (new video card)
MSI geforce gt 630 (old video card)
MSI z87-g43 (motherboard)
Intel core i5-4670k
My PC goes on a boot loop with my monitor hooked up to the new video card. It turns on and immediately turns off. When I plug my old video card in my PC turns on but my monitor doesn't. Wattage isn't the problem too I check the requirements and I meet them.
Well the real min for a 650 card is a 450w Psu.
And about 24a on the 12v power rail.
The Psu you have is a single 12v rail of a max of 32a.
That 32a has to drive all the other components of the system as well.
That leave you with 8a for the rest of the system.
Amps are important.
What has likely happened is is the load has weakened the PSU you have due to fitting the 650 card.
Obviously make sure you connected any extra power feeds to the mobo 4 or eight pin socket of the board with an up rated card drawing more amp and wattage, as the board its self will fall over.
If that does not work it`s time to upgrade the 430w
I must explain that if the eight pin on the mobo is connected, it is two power phases four of the pins are for extra power to the cpu socket. and the other for are used to drive current to the physical Pci-e slot of the board.
Get a lack of power to one or the other and it all falls over.
Even if the card in question does not require any 12v Pci-e power feeds to it.
I'm kind of new to adding parts and building a PC so I don't really understand some of the terms. If you could dumb it down a bit that would be great 😀
So I'm going to need a new PSU most likely? I'll look into getting a stronger.
Oh and also I just tried to run my PC with my original video card and it does the same thing now as my new one. I think there is a problem with the slot it is in. When I had it in a different slot the PC would turn on, but with no monitor display. Now in the original slot it was in doesn't seem to work. I feel like I accidently might have bent something maybe? I don't know if a video card can run like that.
I doubt it, but if the system was powered up in any way, and you took the old card out of the slot.
Then put the new card in you can damage the card slot, or both cards in question.
So I hope you never had the power on while swapping cards.
No I made sure the power was off. I guess I'll have to get my hands on a stronger PSU. Do you have any suggestions on which one I should get? Or which kinds would work well with the new video card?
Edt: Also when I have my original video card in, my PC turns on, but the monitor doesn't. I don't know if the new video card somehow affected my monitor. Everything ran fine until I tried to install my new video card.
