So i ordered a ASRock FM2A88M-HD+ and a XFX Double D R9 290, When i checked the parts and measurements of my case and motherboard on PC Part picker, it said they were compatible, but when they arrived, The Video Card wouldn't properly slide into the Motherboard, i was slightly confused why, until i realized that the South bridge heat sink is stopping the card from properly fitting.
So i was wondering if there was some way to fix this, file down the heat sink or by an adapter of sorts, id really hate to send in the parts to buy another one :/ please respond ASAP

Solution
I doubt a change of parts is needed. Worst case scenario we can find a low profile passive cooling solution which won't impede the card.

However I am pretty sure something doesn't add up here.
Can you show us a picture of the problem. I looked at both parts and can't work out how one would impede the other.

The "flat" side of the card goes into the mobo in a way where, even the overhang at the ear should in no way cross the sbridge.

Are you fitting it the right way?

Filing a heatsink that is attached to the motherboard seems like a bad idea. Post a picture of the parts in question and how they almost fit together. There may be some parts you can remove, but more than likely you will need to change a part or two.

From what I can tell, the southbridge heatsink might be clipping the edge of the GPU cooler plastic shroud. Usually you can clip a bit of that away without terrible effects.

Agreed, in terms of the clipping away bit. Did the same on my ram heatsinks.

Thing is, looking at the board, I can't get my head around how the normally flat bit of the card is being affected. All the cooling is on the other side, no?

OP, pics please quickly so we can help quickly 😉

What I would do, put a piece of masking tap on top of the SB cooler then put your video card in the slot. take a sharpie and mark where the card is hitting. Take the SB cooler off and clip the fins that are causing the issue and file them down till they are smooth so it doesn't look like you bit them off. if done right and take your time it will look really good.

Again, agreed...

Still can't see how such a glaring error was made on either side of the manufacturers there.
