Currently, i'm using fx 8320 (not overclocked) and 2x4GB DDR3 ram. I do a lot of video conversion (e.g MKV to MP4/AVI, etc) and sometimes I also burn them.

Can someone confirm if there's a significant difference between FX 8320 vs i7 6700k in terms of video encoding/conversion (speed & quality)?

Also, does GPU affects video conversion speed?

Solution
Probably still a big gain. Maybe around 25% overall i guess.

And im not sure about the RAM. If the programm only uses 10-30% of you current 8gb RAM than it probably wont profit from more RAM.
There are some video programs that profit greatly from more RAM but these usually eat up your whole RAM and thats not the case here. :)
An OCd fx8320 to 4.3Ghz is still 10% slower than a 4790 non-K version at stock speeds (3.6Ghz)

So the i7 6700k with OC will destroy the 8320 in anything by atleast 30% id say.

And video conversion with the GPU depends on the software. Some can also use the GPU and some can't so it CAN affect the speed but not by that much. It's mainly CPU and there the i7 6700k will serve you best. Besides the way more expensive 6 core Intel CPUs.

thanks for your reply!

What if I don't OC i7 6700k? (I'm sticking with stock speeds/default) would there still be a huge difference against non-OC 8320? (by how many %)

Also, does it make video conversion/burn faster if I upgrade to 16 GB ram even though the application (format factory) only consumes 10-30%~ of my ram (2x4GB DDR3)?
