This is should be a heads up for Microsoft. A free program that works better than your media player. Better do something fast about it or ends up like IE to Mozilla/Chrome.

Don't change this situation, because if it will become like that it will be very good.
[citation][nom]panders4[/nom]I'll admit I have probably downloaded this 100 times on various windows machines since 2005.[/citation]
Agreed, because it is easier to re-download than find the installer on another comp. I love VLC but still use wmp, because it is a resource hog and plays vids properly while folding.
[citation][nom]jurassic512[/nom]Yet you still can't set it to shutdown your PC after a video is finished. And you still can't get it to loop videos.IQ controls are top notch though, which is why I left MPC-HC (again), to go back to VLC.[/citation]
Just wondering, why would you want it to shut down your pc?
Had been using it for like 5 years. I made the switch to MPC-HC lately. VLC didn't always quit properly and I had the VLC icon on the tray even after i shut the program down. Had a tad bit of problem with subtitles too. But apart from these little annoyances it's a really great media player IMO. Will see if I like MPC-HC better in the long run.
I've downloaded it twice, and still don't use it. It's nice and all, but missing quite a few features that I use. It's useful for playing certain types of files that media player doesn't play, though.

Personally I still use WMP for all my music needs. I prefer the library layout and playlist creation features of WMP over every other media player I've used. I like lists but not JUST lists so WMP is almost the perfect balance for me. However I use VLC for all my video playback because it is just so much better.
VLC is great, but I've been using mostly GOM Player, because it's particularly good at zooming/moving/panning the video around while playing. Codec-wise it doesn't really matter much, since I use ffdshow...
I use VLC for videos (especially .flv files) but while it's not the friendliest player it does have many features. I prefer it over Totem. For audio files and streams I use Clementine. On Windows, Foobar2000 is a good audio player.
for sure, try mates watch 1080p video with let's say Intel celeron 1.7GHz and radeon 4650 running it on vlc. It even won't start to play LOL, that's why mpc-hc is the best for me, it knows how to use gpu instead of cpu
Congratulations to the Video Lan team for this milestone. I know I personally put in 150+ downloads. However, I don't think I'll be downloading VLC again for some time, it's video quality is sub-par compared to MPC-HC + LAV and madVR.
Even though version 2.0.1 is not perfect yet, it comes with the best DLL drivers which can be easily integrated with MS Visual Studio (even VB6), and HTML codes. Because it is free, it is highly appreciated by all the software and web developers. It can play up to 10 times slower or faster (for skipping unwanted footage).
I won't be surprised to see it reaches 2 billion downloads 5 years from now.
