Would love any input on choosing between these two. They cost the same where I live. Dont care so much about framerate, will not be able to push 240 fps anyway. One review measured HDR brightnes on the 27 inch to just over 400 nits, and viewsonic is just over 600. Also The viewsonic measured dynamic contrast to 23,055.1:1 and the G7 to 17,000:1.

I've been eyeing up the XG270QC also. It's on the top of my list for <240Hz VA panels.

A couple differences to note:
  • 1000R curvature on the Samsung G7 is pretty extreme
  • G7 is 240Hz, XG270QC is 165Hz
  • XG270QC recently (this week) went from $250 to $225. The G7 costs what? twice that much?
  • Almost no reviews I've been satisfied (in terms of review detail/quality) with on the XG270QC. VA panels typically have slower pixel response times compared to IPS

Hmm. Do you think the g7 would have more depth because it has local dimming, and the Viewsonic doesnt?

Depth = contrast?

Most VA panels (including the XG270QC) sit around 3000:1 contrast. The G7 seems to hit 3900:1. Probably not that noticeable of an improvement.

The Samsung Odyssey G7 has a local dimming feature, but like most edge-lit monitors, it's terrible. There are only a handful of vertical dimming zones, and it takes time for each zone to light up when there are fast-moving objects. It causes uniformity issues, especially in the test pattern, but it isn't as distracting in real content because the algorithm doesn't seem as aggressive as the Samsung CHG70.

When you're looking at reviews of 240Hz monitors. I'd recommend looking at the response times at 240Hz AND ~120Hz. Depending on your GPU, game, game settings, you may not be able to hit 240Hz. So it's important to have good performance at ~120Hz also.

I've noticed some 240Hz monitors don't have great performance at/around 120Hz. Maybe the panel isn't tuned well for those "low" (ahem...) refresh rates. But also, not having variable overdrive can become a big issue when the (variable) refresh range is so large.

Ok, thanks :)

Back to your original question:

As long as the 1000R curve radius doesn't bother you, the G7 is certainly the better monitor. Pretty confusing to me why they both cost the same in your country. That tells me the XG270QC is probably overpriced. Like I said, in the USA, the XG270QC is $250 and the G7 is $500.
