Virtual Machines: i5 7600k or i7 7700K

I am going to be starting to use virtual machines just to get the hang and pool around and such. Probably in the long run a max of 4 vm's. Cost is an issue so if the i5 does the job and is a bit slower or whatever i dont mind because i also need a gpu and i cant pair a i7 with a 1050 but i can do a i5 with a 1060. Wont use it much for gaming but who knows might always play some in the future but as of now no intrest and would use it mainly for vm's and some other stuff for uni. Which on terms of performace and budget is the best CPU to buy?

if its going to be used mainly with VMs for the time being id go ahead and invest in the i7 for the benefit of the hyper-threading capability. but as you said, the i5 would suffice but would become sluggish if your planning on running multiple VMs at once.

so running around 1 or 2 at a time the i5 would be efficient (may be a little slower with 2 but bearable)

running 2-3+ id invest in the i7

ofcourse this also depends on what your planning to do with the VMs. if your planning on using them with hefty software/usage then most definitely go with the i7

you may have a point here, Ryzen does offer 2x more cores than Intel for the same price. May be the better option in this case
