I recently got a virus on my PC called the Redolf.A virus. Its seems to infect HTT and HTM files whne I did a virus scan and I had about 1600 infected files, ranging from stuff under windows to stuff in program files.
Now the problem is my virus scan is unable to clean. The two I tried,NOD32 and avast!, can detect it but when I try to clean they say they are unable to clean the infiltration(Im guessing because they are in use). Unfortunatly the dont have the option to do a scan on boot up so Im unable to do that. Now the question is am I unable to clean this stuff or am I going to have to do a complete wipe of my hard drive?

This post is really off-topic, but I'll throw in a quick reply, anyway. Go immediately to Panda or (I think) MacAfee and use their online virus scanner. IF one of those can clean your system, then go out and buy yourself 2 things- Norton AntiVirus 2004 or some other REAL antivirus program AND a program called PowerQuest Drive Image 2002. Now, people on here will say "Why wait? Just download the programs after paying for them on the web". Well, BECAUSE your system is already infected, buying this software on CD is your only protection from further infection of new programs.

If it can't clean your system, then you're going to need to do a repartition of the hard drive, format, and reinstall of the operating system.

And for goodness sake, when you get the system back, install Norton IMMEDIIATELY. Then Install Drive Image and make yourself a clean image of your boot drive. On CD or DVD. Anything that a virus can't touch.

This outfit- http://www.s-cop.com/ claims to have a downloadable virus cleaner that will take care of your particular virus. Use it, but I'd still go out as described above and get real protection.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, I wasnt really sure where to post it and I saw another post about a virus so. Main problem is I have to use Firebird at the moment cause IE stopped working about the time I found out about the virus(cant really tell if its releated or not) so if the scanner doesnt support Firebird Im kind of up the creek with out a paddle.

The scanner is totally platform independant. It doesn't rely on your browser to operate. Check either web site I mentioned and get busy before you lose your options and have to wipe your system clean!
