Hello, I was downloading this particular program for my Windows 10 computer, this video converter software then I installed it then I found out that it was a fake software that potentially contain viruses then I was not able to terminate the process as it does not show up in Task Manager.. after a few minutes it finishes and I tried to uninstall this **** and founding out that the text in Task Manager are mostly white.. like it's unreadable, after that the PC shut off itself and booted up. BOSD came across saying inaccessible_boot_drive *not sure* and rebooted it self again. Then after that a blinking underscore cursor only show up.

I tried to install Windows 7 in it but the drive won't show up in Windows 7 setup.. I was hoping to recover the files from there by using recovery software as I'm suspecting that it only messed up the filesystem but the drive just won't show in the list!

Btw BIOS can still read the hard disk.

Helpppp! sorry for the long story and rollercoaster English grammar.

Hi

To recover important files which you have not backed up, consider asking for professional help

If you cant afford this sort of service, consider asking a friend who knows what they are doing when recovering data

If you want to do this your self you need to boot up off some sort of Rescue Disk (CD/DVD or USB)

for a older PC upto 2015 you can try Hirens Rescue Cd 1.52

https://www.hirensbootcd.org/
for newer PC's Hirens 1.0x ( new version) will support modern PC hardware and UEFI type bios, & secure boot

programs such as TestDisk/PhotoRec (overy) from https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

can rebuild corrupted partition configuration then recover files to a external disk (USB or over a network)
(found on most rescue disks)

It is important not to recover files to original location on problem disks

Alternative to Hirens

WinPE10 by Sergei Strelec (many added recovery programs & AV programs)

http://sergeistrelec.ru/winpe_10_8/148-winpe-10-8-sergei-strelec-x86-x64-native-x86-20180802-english-version.html

or some more here
https://www.raymond.cc/blog/5-system-rescue-boot-disc-based-on-windows-pe/

If Win 7 DVD (or USB) cant see your hard disk it probably means you have modern hardware not supported by (standard versions of ) Win 7
(including M2 type SSD)

Another option if you dont want to boot up off a rescue disk AND if a desktop PC not a laptop is to remove the hard drive and connect to another PC by SATA or USB Tray and run rescue software on other PC

Personally the first step before running any data recovery programs is to test the hard disk for physical damage using WD Data lifeguard for Windows or Seagate equivalent. If your hard disk is dying then data recovery software is unlikely to work.

Guys I plug it in to my freshly installed Windows 7 on different hard disk and it shows in dskmgmt as:
Disk 0
Dynamic

Invalid
...

How can I use the hard drive again?? I have used ease us data recovery and thankfully the files are there but it is cluttered.

Is it possible repair the drive and use it again to boot Windows as I am worried that the virus would be hiding in the hard drive firmware and starts to execute again..

Dynamic disks are only supported in Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate Editions. You can not convert a basic disk to a dynamic one in Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic and Premium Editions one of which I assume you use. However the virus appears to have a mind of its own and just changed that. That is likely why ithe disk shows as invalid.

No matter.

I would use a Windows 10 machine and a 3rd party partition app to convert the disk back to basic. Pick an app promising no data loss but be realistic and take your data off if possible. Use a machine with antivirus protection to scan the disk prior to and once its converted .
