Vision Quest Monitors???

How are vision quest monitors?

A 24" 1920 x 1200 monitor for so cheap!! What's wrong with it!

Is the price low because it has a low contrast ratio, or may it be because it's missing sometihng like dvi (not enough info given). I also cant find reviews or forum topics of this monitor anywhere, should I trust it??

Unfortunately I can't view the item as it requires a Canadian postal code which I don't know, but how much money CAD does it cost? If it has at least a standard 1000:1 contrast ratio (with at least 20,000:1 dynamic), less or at a 5 ms response time (not GTG) it is probably fine. At that resolution it'd be nice for them to include an HDMI cable along with an HDMI port, but it is not really necessary.

Vision Quest is not a brand that I have heard of in the US, so you may want to be a little weary, but as long as they have a decent warranty there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

here's the link from their site... no d/c and it's only 800/1, but it's only $230 CAN!! It only has 1 vga and 1 dvi as you can see, but it does not specify what's included. I actually saw it at the store, I remember thinking that it was a nice monitor for the price, but this was like 2 months ago so sadly I do not remember to much :/

The also include a 1 year warranty, but that's not really an issue for me, I usually just bitch at the students working at staples and they cave in and refund me like it's nothing

The 800:1 contrast ratio leaves a little to be desired, but as far as everything else it is pretty standard stuff. 2 ms GTG is 5 ms regular response time which is average, the pixel pitch is around average, the brightness is average, and the pixel density at that LCD size should be fine as you'll usually find they're pushing 1920x1080 more these days (which is 16:9 instead of 16:10).

Here's a comparable monitor on Newegg that's actually a bit cheaper. (250 CAD = 235.49249 USD)

My other issue though is that if it doesnt include a dvi cable I'll have to put it in close to $30 buying a new one, which makes the price of the monitor $260 can +12 for environmental fees = $272 :/ I could probably find a better monitor at that price. I think if it doesn't provide any information on cables nor ports it is a bit shady of a deal. As you can see, the Acer one that I linked has an HDMI port and comes with every cable that you'd need including an HDMI cable and the necessary adapters. I'd urge you to maybe look around more, there has been tons of deals today and I doubt Acer, Samsung, LG, and etc. haven't been left out and can be easily trusted.

HDMI isnt an issue because I have a 42" 1080p plasma screen and neither are speakers (I use headphones). So I Kinda think that the samsung monitor would be nice with its 50,000:1 d/c

Based off just looking at the specs quickly I'd probably take this one. It's around the same price but it's larger and has a higher resolution. Also, SyncMaster is a great brand. If you don't care about the extra size and resolution the 21.5" has the dynamic contrast ratio advantage like you said and a mainstream native resolution. All of them are fine, really. I have the H213H's brother-monitor (if that is any kind of correct terminology) the X213H and it's great.

Alright, thanks, I'll prob pick up the samsung since it has such a high contrast ratio! I was really confused on what to buy. At first I wanted a 5850 and a 1080p monitor, then I wanted a 1920 x 1200 monitor only, but then I decided I'll get a 1080p monitor and then instead of selling my 4890, buy another one!

If you have a CrossFire motherboard adding another 4890 is definitely the best decision performance-wise. 1080p is a solid resolution right now, and while higher is usually better, it doesn't really matter until you get to 30".

I've got a VisionQuest VQL-24WD from Staples. ($219.95 + recycling fee $9.00 + PST + GST = $256.43)

It comes with one VGA cable only. No DVI cable. It has an external Power adapter(AC->DC), which then power the monitor with DC 12V.
It worked fine up to 1920 * 1080 resolution but 1920 * 1200 had a strange problem.(hooked up to MacBook Pro 17" via miniDisplay Port -> VGA adaptor).
It blinks(screen goes away all the sudden, and the it turns on right away with some horizontal vibrations and flashings) every 5 ~ 20 min, irregularly.
I suspected the factory bundled VGA cable as it looked thin and not much shielding. So, i tried a very high quality
VGA cable and it worked a bit better, with less blinking. But the problem is still there.

Not sure if the issue is from cable, MacBook Pro, miniDisplay port to VGA converter, or the monitor's built-in board.
I am going to try DVI this week.

If 1920 * 1200 is not working fine, I will have to return it.

Finishing quality is just fine.

well... I bought a samsung T240 and it has a dead pixel so I'm trying to fix it right now. If it doesnt work I'm taking it back tommorow. Uh for the monitor try to increase the refresh rate to the highest it accepts, thats how I ussually fix blinking... I have another thread on the dead pixel if you wanna help.
