it was, you had a lot of nerve insulting someone for their blog, but as ninja wishes, I'll lay off and try to work this out diplomatically, lets put this behind us now though, and discuss vista instead
I have not been to his blog nor do I really care about it. I'm pretty sure that I mentioned that to the Sick guy. The other guy starting with an Ex something (can't remember) went to his blog. I think he complemented him. You sould go back over the posts (all of them if necessary) before you pass your "Judgments". So then your posting about more stuff that is off topic.... Remember I have a tin hat and there is a conspiracy to make Jaws 6?? Wait thats off topic too. I remember.............................

BILL GATES THE MONOPOLIST AND 60 SERVICES VISTA yea that is the topic baby!

BILL GATES THE MONOPOLIST AND 60 SERVICES VISTA
That tin hat fried your brain... 😛
 NO it didn't!

he was just joking there, gosh
I was too can't you tell  by the way this is the EVIL face If I was pissed you would see a 300,000 word essay about exactly the sort of person I know that you are and I would not even think about graphics. I would use LARGE words like this

*^*(&(%(^%*(% YOU!

Agree, maybe the time of the free-open standard PC is coming to an end; must be regulated for the majority users well being.

Do you really mean that? That defeats the point of the Bill of Rights. That puts the government and the likes of MS in control of our kids. Thanks to Abe Lincoln and his "railroad fever" corporations were given protections that were only afforded to individuals. In fact corporations back in the day were one of the greatest threats to the founding fathers. The main problem is that should a corporation grow so large it might take a branch of the government w/ it.

No, I was being facetious.

As for Exisnet, don't insult the way I run a blog, and expect me to sit and take it. More focus? Do you even know what we are about? Why don't you ask before telling me what to do. If you think that is my true color, fine. Have at it. I ain't apologizing to anyone. The blog is meant for the members seeing as 90% of the threads are hidden.

Maybe I'm being a bit combative, but frankly I'm being uncharacteristically reserved. I have no reason to act like a bastard. Please don't make me.

OT:
I said you had an interesting blog; you took it negatively instead of the intended compliment.

You do have an interesting Blog, with a little more attention and direction you may have something.

I said you had an interesting blog; you took it negatively instead of the intended compliment.

You even twist your own words around, you people crack me up. :lol:Buddy pal,

On another thread that I posted on you said this to me...

Maybe because we want to? Theres plenty of Anti-Vista threads in here, go complain there.
As I remember I was suggesting some alternatives to the BETA application called Dramscene. So now I have taken your advice and started a thread that I can rant in. So here you are now and what is your purpose here now on this thread? You’re posting about stuff that has been put in the past! Your way, way off topic. In your last post on this thread you mentioned that MS was justified in using DRM to foil piracy (only in a nasty way). I mentioned that AACS has been defeated so then is AACS and DRM really there to end piracy or is it there to force you to by a new PC with Vista? So now you are posting again and do you have any burning facts to add? If so enlighten us! If not, then go and start a thread of your choosing. Please! I believe that your intention is to instigate problems to knock the thread off of the MONOPOLIST who thinks of you as little more then a spider monkey.

You make far more of a deal about it than it really is. I frankly don't care, because, I know my way around these companies. Microsoft (I refuse to say M$) left so many holes in the DRM web that its a wonder if they aren't doing this deliberately. If your content is legal, there is nothing to worry about. If your content is illegal, there is still nothing to worry about. Microsoft only cares that you payed for Vista. They couldn't give a damn about what happens after that.

Have you given thought to the fact that... oh maybe 98% of all software is optimized for XP and not Vista/ Come back in a year an tell me the same story.

Microsoft cares only about the money not the consumer or DRM IMO; MS in a position to control and that is not good.

This story may help visualize where DRM is heading.

TPM (Trusted Platform Module) It has a lot of members, although the board of directors consists of Microsoft, Sony, Advanced Micro Devices, Intel, IBM, Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard and two smaller companies that are voted in on a rotating basis.

The basic idea is that you build a computer from the ground up securely, with a core hardware "root of trust" called a Trusted Platform Module, or TPM. Applications can run securely on the computer, communicate with other applications and their owners securely, and be sure that no untrusted applications have access to their data or code.
Then BitLocker encryption from Microsoft that works hand in hand with TPM to secure your system. The only problem is that MS has a master KEY.

This is all so Orwellien. No matter how many posts like this I write I have to remember that since I have a tin hat on the "RAYS" don't mess with me like the doubters. MS uses study and focus groups to determine how to influence an objective group in a way that lightly rewards the use of Microsoft products. That is to say that seeing pleasant shapes and colors can have a positive influence in the promotion of sales. It is no wonder that some of the kids here can not help but defend something so intimate and important to them. Looking at Windows keeps the body secure so that the mind can be influenced in many ways.

Look at the start menu and count how many times you read the word WINDOWS..... 13 times here and 2 Microsofts. This influences "Name Branding or Name Recognition" Redmond has put MILLIONS upon MILLION into shifting influence of "Windows Users" in a way that for lack of a better word is like DRUGS. Dam everything else and give me my windows or I will kill you!

You brought a point (amongst others even though I think you do rant a little to much)that I have been concerned with and this is file encyrption.

First, it would be of extreme concern to me that microsoft would have a so called "master key" for bit locker. If such a "master key" would exist, it would completely invalivdate its effectiveness. Could you please post a link or something that would prove that such a master key does exist (or would have to exist due to technical nature of it).

My second concern relates to third party encryption. I am not a software expert, but it would seem to me that a third party encryption software such as true crypt would need access to some of the "drm protected hardware" that is further protected by the "drm protected software" of vista" so as to ensure the validity of their encryption method--- however, microsoft will not let third party vendor access to the core operating and hardware system components of a vista computer leaving anything suspect as far as security and file encryption. I guess my question is --- how can a third party ever hope to develop sufficient software to give true security using encryption software given the restrictions imposed by the vista software and hardware requirements.

P. S. Mangnum,

I think you have a lot of good points that I agree with --- but sometimes you get off track --- like your post here with master key to bit locker --- this is major issue --- but somehow at the end you fluff a lot of other stuff in this comment that does not necessarily relate to the issue. Just consider sticking with point --- as you do have good ones --- but think sometimes they get lost in the "rant" (not that I dont rant to --- i probably do --- but if i do try to stick to subject at hand)

Please dont rant in response to me --- just looking for some input as this is important to me. --- not to say you cant give a comment such as I believe this is because of drm --- which would be true by the way -- which brings to me the question --- (am I ranting).

Microsoft swears that no such key exists. That being said the encryption is the same AACS encryption being used for HDDVDs. Many of my posts here mention AACS and people think that I'm working under the wrong assumption about MSes position.

Bit Locker requires the TPM to work. These chips hold the keys. As it turns out using 128 or 256 bit encryption is not crack able, yet members of Doom9 have found all the keys needed to view and copy HDDVDs encrypted with AACS. So MS may not have a key or may not need one?

My money says that at a minimum the US Government has a path in. I often listen to Steve Gibson's Pod Casts with Leo Lapporte and they were talking about encryption. Steve made it clear that the Government's encryption has to be greater then what the public has at 256. He went deeper and talked about new laws that came to pass after 9-11. Homeland security (NSA, etc.) can apparently bug the entire planet and be in your packets. It turns out that the Fed has the paths that it needs as a matter of national security.

One of my fans here insists that my posts are FUD. In this case the proof is in the pudding and I doubt that people like Steve Gibson (GRC.com for POD Casts) will make up encryption stories. I would imagine that many spooks can look at what we do in all sorts of places. So, make sure you keep clean in your machine. It isn't like MS is going to care about what is on our systems. Matters of national security trump all others regardless of what side you are on.

I just went to look at that site and wow there are so many new casts. HERE IS GRC PODCASTS closer to the bottom there are shows about crypto and even TruCrypt

magnum,

thanks for the link to steve gibson's pod casts. Lot of interesting stuff there. I did listen to a lot of the stuff relating to file security but did not find anything that would indicate there was a "master key". Steve Gibson also did not comment as to AACS being used as encryption method for bitlocker. This does not mean what you are saying is not true--- but perhaps I did not listen to right podcast.

Because it did not seem addressed by Steve Gibson, I did leave a comment to him relating to your concern (as well as mine if such should exist) that there might be a "master key" and wether there is a problem with bit locker using AACS as an encryption method especially in view that the AACS has been broken with HDDVD's. I also left him a comment relating to my concern to potential third party development problems of true crypt that might be posed due to the hardware and software restrictions that vista implements for drm (my fear is that unless encyption can have access to some core parts of the operating and hardware system--- your session could be recorded, have traces, or otherwise be compromised since the encryption software may not have access or be aware of whats going on in the background of the active drm protection services)--- well see if we get an answer --- At this time, it remains unclear to me exactly what is going on with vista in a lot of areas including encryption as it is so heavily masked with drm making anything suspect--- I think the best bet is to approach vista with caution --- at least for the next year so the bugs can be fixed and so we can better understand what is going on under the hood. What would be most helpful in evaluating vista would be actual users experience with vista --- something we have little of currently. Currently, a lot of comments in this forum relating to vista seem fluffed up from both sides of the fences-- I dont know what to believe other than to stay away from vista until i really know.

I haven't finished reading the entire thread, got a little bored with the flaming.

M$ worries me. It gives an indication of what would happen if Intel was to ever win the CPU war. I do not buy everything bad that is said about them, but Vista is a nasty pig of an OS that has a lot of potential for abuse.

People who worry too much and conversly do not worry at all are both silly. I am not buying Vista yet because I do not need it nor desire the potential problems with it. I remember far too well, the issues with copy protection stoping legal copies of games working, forcing genuine customers to get their games cracked so they could actually play them. Yes, that was not M$'s fault but their copy protection may one day be the cause of a similar crazy situtation.

Adding to this, the EU is ripping into M$ on a regular basis. They are concerned over M$ not complying with their rules on fair competition. This makes me concerned as I genuinly believe they are looking out for consumers best interests (despite not always getting it right).

Without competition, Vista is only the start of even worse value for money from M$. Let's face it, M$ are doing what any other company would do in their position, abuse their power and get away with making as much money as possible for as long as possible. That is the failing of capitalism. Enough out of me, I have said too much and will get flamed!
