Vizio subwoofer replacement wont pair

So I got this Vizio soundbar s3821 from a friend and I decided to buy the subwoofer separately since the original one died. At this point I dont know which of the two is broken but theywont pair. The soundbar works fine by itself and the sub I got is the same model # as the bar. Ive tried everything and anything I could find online including bar software update. Any sugestions?

Did you contact Vizio support to see if the sub has to be paired to a specific soundbar or if they can be interchanged? Or if the issue with the soundbar to begin with so that it just won't pair with a sub.

Yes I did. And after following their step-by-step intructions, which I've did before calling, they said that the life expectancy of the equipment was 3-4 years and I should buy a new one.

Were you able to buy just a new subwoofer or was it used? Maybe it's bad.
I would suggest you not buy another Vizio product. 3-4 years is pretty bad even for cheap electronics.

Good lord they actually said that? Don't even pretend they have a long lasting product?

If this thing pairs like standard BT, I would FORGET all existing connections/reset to factory, and try again from the top.
