I'm using VMWare Workstation Player 12.1 and I have finally managed to install vmnetcfg.
I went to the NAT settings and tried to add the ports there. I used IPv4 address of my virtual machine as a Virtual Machine IP.
I then applied the settings and restarted the virtual machine but the ports were still not open.

Here's my NAT settings: http://i.imgur.com/xSYh4mQ.png

What's could be the problem?

I need to run an application that requires some ports open.

OK. so if you need to run some applications on virtual machine and you are choosing the vmnet adapter then select the similar network.
you are using 192.168.181.0 network on vmnet adapter. and you have defined the network 192.168.11.9 under the port forwarding section. so the problem is that either you have change from the network 192.168.181.0 to 192.168.11.1 or you have to change it like 192.168.181.1 as gateway and the apps port forwarding ip should be 192.168.181.9😛ort. try this things and leave reply.

Are you talking about the Subnet address? I can't change it. It says: "The Subnet IP and Subnet mask are mismatch ". What should the Subnet mask be?

What port did you want forwarded? Did you forward the ports on both your Physical Router as-well-as your Virtual or are you looking to only port forward to another computer on your LAN and not the Internet? Oh, and one last question does the virtual machines have a local firewall like Windows Firewall and have you open the ports there?

It is forwarded on my physical router and it works fine on my physical computer.

I removed it but I still can't change the Subnet IP of NAT adapter. How do I switch it to class b ip?

the subnet address should be 172.21.23.0 not 172.21.23.1 that's why you are getting the errors.

Now that I switched my virtual machine to this adapter, it lost the internet access. Diagnostic says: "The default gateway is not accessible."
The gateway IP is 172.21.23.2

I reset it to defaults (keeping the custom NAT adapter)
Here's how it looks: http://i.imgur.com/xggRGPF.png
I still don't understand which gateway IP I should use. Now that I have internet access, I executed the ipconfig command and it stated that the gateway IP is 192.168.67.2 (same as the custom NAT adapter uses)
So the bridged adapter is now active again and the ports are still closed. I can tell that the VM software does use the port that I entered in the NAT settings because I can't use it on my physical computer anymore. The problem is that I can't use it on my virtual machine either.

I did try other ports. When I add them, I can't use them on my physical machine nor the virtual machine.
I'm using VMWare for virtual machine. The software that I need to run works fine on my physical machine.
