Voltage Regulator or Surge Protector?

I have a new power supply Corsair VS 450 for my pc and I have AVR which has a capacity of Im not sure 500VA-600VA I think. Can I use my AVR or just buy a surge protector? I already used that AVR when I had my Orion 600W Generic Power supply.

by AVR are you referring to a Battery Backup/UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)?
