VPN killing Internet connection

After connecting to a business clients vpn, I lose all internet connectivity.

I am the only one of ~30 VPN-ers who is experiencing this and the (inexperienced) system administrator says it must be a "client" issue (so up to me to remedy).

I am using a laptop that was provisioned to me from a previous (business) client that allowed me to keep the laptop, and I had no issues VPN-ing with them.

Might there be something "under the covers" the provisioning system administrators installed that is causing this?
Could it be my ISP? (but I've been vpn-ing for years, just not with this old clients laptop)
Other?

I am a network/IP/VPN neophyte so thanks!

What are you using for a VPN? It's not uncommon for businesses to configure the VPN client so that you can't access your own home network and/or internet at the same time. It's considered a security threat. They don't want anything except that device connected to their network. And if they're not willing to reroute your internet through their remote network (which is an option for them), you end up w/ no internet access except that which connects you to their server.

So you may be right about something being left behind by the previous configuration. But w/o any details on the VPN, it's difficult to suggest where to start looking.

thanks guys/gals for responding.

Camie, I'm on a mac, so I will need to "translate". Thanks for the link.

eibgrad, we are using tunnelblick. Since posting on 5.3, I have picked up another client requiring VPN, they have me using "openvpn connect" this works fine! Kinda indicates to me, the issue is on the server side, do you agree?
