I want to create a proxy server kind of thing that would be hooked up to my home wifi, and I could leave it at home, and i could connect to it using an I.P. address, and it could redirect me to any site. A lot of sites that i like are blocked at my school and I found that i was able to connect to the IP address of one of the teacher's computers but that was not much help. So i know the IP address idea will work i just need to know how to get the thing working.

You need a few things to get that done. First, you need either a static external IP at home (unlikely) or Dynamic DNS which translates to your ext. Home IP. If that is cleared you can download any distro and install squid to run as proxy on your Pi. There are tons of how-tos out there so that should not be too hard. Afterwards connect to your proxy and that should be it. However, most schools block proxies alltogether so may not work after all.
