Waiting for AMD or to get a GTX 970?

I have asked a few questions on here, but they weren't really worded well.

My question is, should I buy a GTX 970 or wait on AMD's 300 series? I play games at 1080p with a Radeon 7850 right now, and I want more power. What is the best thing to do in this situation, I mean, this is my first time upgrading GPU's and I want it to be worth my money. I would like to wait on AMD considering the new Mantle API, but at the same time, a new GTX 970 would look nice under the Christmas tree.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Solution
Mantle is something to look fwd to however keep in mind that DX12 will do the exact same thing and I believe I've read that DX12 is based on mantle but don't quote me on it. So you could have mantle now for the games that support it or DX12 next year with Windows 10.
Well that depends... do you like to open your presents early or do you have the patience to wait? You could get the GTX970 now and have instant gratification or wait for AMD's 300 series but I don't think there's even a release date set. Also last I checked any information related to the cards and their actual specs at this time are just rumor isn't it?

I suppose so, I just want to make sure I don't spend $350 and regret it.

If you are looking for bang for your buck, then grab one of the super cheap r9 290s out there. You game at 1080p, so they will be more than enough to handle that, and with the new cards coming out there are some excellent deals right now.
