Hmm, 8% vs 89%. You dont think that maybe just SOME of those 89% might drag the PC average down?

Vista definitely has its flaws, but I still think it is better than OS X.

OS X requires you to use certain hardware to run that operating system legally, where as in Windows you could use any hardware configuration you want. This leads to cheaper computers, and better hardware configurations due to availability.

Both operating systems are closed source, however Microsoft will allow a third party developer to write software for windows provided they pay a royalty. I assume apple has a similar agreement with third party developers. Regardless, windows has much more support than OS X. Also, I find it interesting that mac users will be quick to proudly claim that OS X is based on UNIX and Free BSD when the whole point of these operating systems is open source software and efficiency. OS X is not open source at all, in fact it is the most closed of the operating systems, which is apparent due to it's lack of third party software relative to Windows.

Neither windows or OS X is very efficient when it comes to the typical user. Users require a nice, neat interface, and lots of different applications running. Making a claim that one OS is more efficient than the other would just be pointing out which is the smartest kid with down syndrome.

Related to the open source issue, let me assure you all that OS X does NOT have better anti-virus protection. The only reason macs typically encounter less viruses is because macs are far less abundant then windows and virus code is not programmed for macs because it would effect relatively few computer users.

It may seem that Macs "just work" better than windows PCs, however I think this may be due to a lack of customization. Macs can run only a few different devices, Windows supports a multitude of devices. To say a Mac is better because it does not crash as much as a PC is a little naive, because OS X does not perform nearly as many as the tasks Microsoft does. With a little preemptive maintenance of your windows computer, you can completely avoid any of those windows errors.

So we have it that Windows has a wider range of hardware support, software support, and is cheaper. Unless you are running server tasks (in which case I give the crown to Linux), Microsoft offers the best operating system. Some may say a mac is great for web browsing, but why spend over a grand on something that will only be doing that?

Yeah agree with most of what you said but the most BSOD in Vista has been down to third party drives such as Nvidia for example !!!!

When correctly configured I do not think this is an issue. A lot of problems we hear about are user related, and Windows gets the blame. I recently built a computer for a friend, Vista Ultimate with a 8800 GTS 640 MB video card. Nvidia drivers work like a charm.

Care to link me to specific cases that have been found to be caused by Vista?

1. Mac users encounter less viruses because they work and surf smarter.
2. Anti-virus software is a scam against dumb people.

Please enlighten me....how do macs "work and surf smarter"?

That sounds a lot like an advertising pitch to me with no real substance to the argument.

I agree with your statement about anti-virus software (although you don't have to be such a douche about it). There are some good anti virus companies though....

1. Pure Bull$h*t
2. Partial Bull$h*t

Or did I misinterpret what you wrote? Are you referring to the macs surfing smarter or the users themselves surfing smarter?

Either way I think its a jaded argument. No matter how rich or smart you are, everyone looks at porn...lol

Just google vista bsod nvidia drivers, mine have been more stable of late but even so thats one of the flaws of open architecture to hardware, if its dont right great but didnt nvidia have time to get it right with all the beta releases, i mean even the 8800gtx was released before Vista was actually released

Well then this may be an issue with nvidia, not necessarily windows. Like I said earlier, windows xp and windows vista are such huge and comprehensive operating systems that they often get the blame for issues that are not particularly related to them.

Back to the topic, obviously if you do not know what you are doing then things may not run as smoothly when configuring an operating system that supports everything versus an operating system that supports only a few things. Much less possibility for error. Makes me laugh about the argument that mac users are smarter than PC users. OS X is a less complex operating system with its lack of third party support and some how that makes it a smarter operating system for smarter people? lmao.

Personally I do not think there is a correlation, sure macs are more expensive (and appeal to higher income people) but I know plenty of dumb rich people.

I don't look at porn ... 😗
Mac users are wiser people too. It's not BS. It's a fact. They don't click on every "ok", "install" or on weird looking link on an email or web page link. Perhap it would be better to say that they are much less likely to do so.
Mac users care about the environment more too.
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/green-with-envy%3F/another-reason-mac-users-are-snobby-theyre-greener-than-you-329998.php
"A full 47 percent of US adults, on the other hand, just don't care about the environment." That is soooo sad that so many PC users just don't care.

That's because there aren't many attacks against Macs and not many Windows viruses effect Macs (different PC architecture), but Macs are not immune.

What's prince Charles got to do with it....

Maybe you thinking of Camilla and backing the wrong horse....

nah... i think it was the dumb rich people 😗

LOL.

You have absolutely nothing to back up those claims. That is a statement based purely on stereotype generated from Apple's advertising campaign, and you fell for it hook, line, and sinker. Who is the wiser now? The PC user who thought for themself or the mac user who was dense enough to fall for fast talk and a trendy advert?

Maybe I should follow your strategy and blame your utter ignorance on you living in Long Island....lol

"However, Whitehouse also asserted that part of the reason why there has been a relative lack of Mac-specific exploits is that Mac users are more aware of the danger than PC users. "I believe in part that historically the user base of Apple products are more technically knowledgeable - they're a bit wiser. So they're not necessarily as susceptible to the typical confidence tricks and so forth," Whitehouse said. "

He said it much more elegantly than I ... :sol:

lol ... long island? hu, yea, ok, you got me ... it's a bit expensive to live here ...

@Harry-Plop per: I do belive njalterio said caused by Vista, the search results your google search will uncover are caused by nVidia drivers.

About the Mac users are smarter article Mac users allways seem to mention the part that "Kelly said the greater affluence and education level of those who surf using a Mac is attributable in part to the company's comparatively pricier machines, as well as to their perception as a status symbol and their greater market share among those in the publishing and design industries. Another thing the article never concludes on the question of Mac users being smarter. Finally it's from 2002, you couldn't find anything from the last 6 years?

About security the two Mac viruses that exist both require the user to be really dumb to fall for the trick, however with Mac being more popular a greater number of people will be interested in finding exploids like the 2 minutte hack using Safari and with Apples slow response time to such threats a lot can get hurt(it took Apple around 6 months to close the Safari hole)

@ctbaars: You conveniently exclude the "That comment is just ridiculous," said Andrew Plato, president at Anitian Enterprise Security, a Beaverton, Ore.-based security solution provider. "While many IT people prefer the ease of use and style of Macs, the reality is that Macs are mostly in the hands of average folks with limited IT skills." found in your http://www.crn.com/security/201802256 link 😉

1. Boxes are made of corrugated cardboard are you saying we should all move to cardboard from the trusted aluminum/sheet metal cases?
2. How so they all use Photoshop last I checked that’s a universal development platform, even the slick “print software” is in essence Office and Photoshop nothing out of the ordinary. I am also aware they have special Mac only “print software” but special doesn’t make it impossible for effective and fluid production.
3. Question for you can you show me a virus/spyware/trojan that will run on my ever so poopy Vista Ultimate 64bit copy I’ve been looking all over just to show all my nerd friend that Vista is as you say poopy.
4. They are soo revolutionary with they sleek and sexy design I can see how one can become infatuated with them.
5. Like? Oh wait I remember Mac runs MS Office.
6. Hmm again another blanket statement, oddly enough I have had next to no problems with Vista pre sp1 and post sp1 32bit to 64bit, other than Nvidia sucking in the drivers “Dreamscape and latest Nvidia build”…..
7. But how can one get by with such a small and sexy oh ya baby I see your point.
8. I don’t get why there isn’t a 8.
9. Do they not have compatable binaries oh wait ya Mac’s run x86 now my bad.
10. Hmm 30”’s of raw monitor… I see your point.
1. How so last I checked I don’t have proprietary hardware inside my machine.
2. Is that so, I really thought the mid range hardware had its strong points with potential for overclocking to increase the overall value of the purchase, come to think of it does Mac offer a overclocking bundle I would love to pay another 1200 for that feature on my next Mac Pro.
3. Hmm how many games run natively on OSX and previous none UNIX based kernels. Ya I said UNIX.
4. Hmm ill have to agree the prowess of my machines 3d capabilities is somewhat amazing then I go play a game.
5. You know that sounds awfully like a SOHO market, hey isn’t that also what Mac’s target.
6. I do like the very broad upgrade options.
7. Last I checked aren’t PC’s always faster than Mac’s even in Photoshop?
8. Don’t you love that they keep their old customers in mind and don’t go ape **** and try to force OSX down your throat. Wait Apple is a good company with good products that has to be wrong.
9. Some day billions let me know when Mac’s reach 300000.
10. True true.

Word, Playa.
