Want laptop display screen to stay on

Hello,
I've followed the usual instructions regarding "turn off display after" but no matter what time I select, the screen always goes dark after 60 seconds of mouse inactivity.

Check the screen saver options, also make sure you are changing the power settings for both plugged in and on battery

I tried both of the above suggestions. It did not help. I finally downloaded a shareware application called MouseTwitch and it works great. It simulates small mouse movement at a selected interval so the computer does not go to sleep while MouseTwitch is turned on.
