I want to use onboard graphics instead of sapphire R9 270 dual x GPU for couple of weeks.I don't want to detach the graphics card from the board. so i have decided to unplug the 6-pin PCI express power connector from my graphics card, but the graphics card will be stay connected to the PCI express graphics slot. The monitor's DVI cable will be connected to the motherboard's DVI output.. So graphics card will stay inactive and it will not use any power..

But my question is, will this configuration damage my graphics card? Is it safe??

Solution
It is safe. Make sure you set your primary graphics card (init display first) in BIOS to onboard VGA. Once you get Windows up and running, you can also disable your Radeon in device manager. And when you decide you want to switch back to Radeon, enable it in Windows first, then restart, hit DEL to go to BIOS and set "init display first" to PCI-E, then shut down, reconnect PCI-E cables, connect the monitor to Radeon, turn the computer on.

I will change the setting of BIOS and select onboard GPU as primary..
so it may work..

I just wanna make sure that the GPU will not use any power and I dont want to detach the GPU from the board too.
