Looking into a newer video card for my aging computer.

I'd like some advice whether or not its worth the effort.

Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz
Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
RAM
8.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 802MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK Computer INC. P8Z68-V PRO (LGA1155)
Graphics
VS248 (1920x1080@60Hz)

DELL ST2310 (1920x1080@60Hz)

AMD Radeon HD 5670 (Gigabyte)

I've read some of the cards I looked at used the 3.0 PCI slot. My board has 2.0 PCI.

Does that rule out those cards?

What is the best card that will work in my system and will I see better results from my present card ?

All modern video cards use Pcie 3.0 and they will work in a pcie2 board. What power supply do you have? Whatbis your budget. Id suggest a gtx1050ti if you dont have a great psu. If you have a better psu a gtx 1060 6gb would be the best video card id put with that cpu.

Titan
Ambassador
Gtx 1050ti @ $180
Amd Rx570 @ $150
Gtx 1060-6 @ $250
Amd Rx580 @ $190
Gtx 1660ti @ $280

In order of ability. Your psu will determine which can be used.
As said above, a full 16Gb of ddr3 will help in many games, especially online games that have high server counts like fortnite or WoW.
A 240/250Gb SSD can be had for as low as $35 and will definitely snap up windows experience and load times for many games. Your pc in many ways will seem much faster, even though it isn't.

You guys are great with all your advice its exactly what I needed.

My power supply is older than I thought. Time fly's by.

Some of you mentioned about more memory. Would I have get new memory to have it all match or can I add to what I have?

I do have two ssd drives installed also.

Best part is the wife says since its been so long when I last upgraded she's giving me the green light.

Thinking of the future if I'm going to add memory possibly power supply and video card maybe I should just start with a new build.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Whats your budget? Try to get matched ram or at least the same speed and timings to increase the chances of it working. A 570 outperforms a 1050ti by a lot and is cheaper. If you are going to uograde psu, go for the 570, you can also get it with 8gb of gddr5.
