Currently using Win 7 Ult x 64, but I think i want to up to 10. Read a little bit online and a lot of people said the best thing to do is reformat using 7. Enter your genuine code and then download all the updates (several GB) and then up to 10 through the updater.

I am using an 120GB SSD for programs and OS, Everything else goes on my Mechanical HDD.

I could up to 10 now but read that that is the best way and the least likely way to run into issues when upgrading to 10.

Asking for advise on this from the tech gurus. My hardware is all compatible with 10.
I want windows to boot fast (like it does now)

Also anyone know how I would go about cloning a windows 7 Ult install CD?

Thanks.

Don't reformat before upgrading, upgrade first and then you can re-install Windows 10 whenever you want.

The update should work just fine with that setup, I have an identically set up machine that was upgraded day 1 and worked perfectly out of the box.

You won't need the 7 ultimate disk, but if you need one, use any WIndows 7 disk you have, copy the files, delete the log files that limit your choices, and then burn your disk (that you copied from your legally obtained Windows 7 for backup purposes). All Windows 7 disks contain all versions, there's just a small file that limits which options you are given.

Afternoon,

Don't upgrade to Windows 10. Period.

Full of bugs and compatibility issues making it a piece of shit operating system. Screwed up my motherboard and gave me blue screens when I decided to upgrade.

Yeah downvote my post but when your computer [adjective removed] ]up you will be the one with the straight face.

Regards,

Thanks for the tips basroil.

I was unaware I can reinstall windows 10 after upgrading. How would I do that without a windows 10 CD?

I want to clean out all the junk from the past 2 years of web browsing and I am also having issues with windows 7 troubleshooter history taking up disc space so I want that to go away for good.

I like keeping my pc running at top performance of what its capable of, and old files and programs and years of web browsing slow it down a bit.

My roomate got a new pc with windows 10 on it and i was playing around a bit with it and I think i would like the upgrade and the new layout/programs/features.
