I'd like upgrade a lot. I just have some concerns.

At the moment:

Processor: AMD FX-4100 Quad-Core

Mobo: MSI 760 GM-P34(FX) (MS-7641)

Graphics card: MSI GTX 970

Ram: 8gb

PSU: 600w

OS: Windows 8

For new upgrades though I'd like to get an Intel i5-4690k. I just don't know what mobo would be compatable with that. Plus I'd like new Ram (probably 16gb) and I'd need a PSU also.

But my main concern lies in the fact of getting a now mobo. Do I need a windows disk. Because I bought my computer pre-assembled so it didn't come with a disk (I have a license key on my computer). Is windows installed onto my HDD so it doesn't matter what I do to my mobo?

Just need a little bit of guidance towards the right parts, and how to approach the windows problem.

Solution
You'll need an lga 1150 motherboard. As for windows you can do something called sysprep. It will delete all drivers for your current installation so that you can transfer that hard drive to your new motherboard without reinstalling. To do this go to start and type: C:\Windows\System32\sysprep\sysprep.exe in the search box and press enter. When sysprep opens select oobe under system cleanup action. Then check the box next to generalize. And under shutdown options select shutdown then press ok. After it shuts down do not turn it on. Install the new motherboard first then turn it on and go through the setup.
