My PC presently has 6gb of RAM. I am playing a game called Star Citizen and it doesn't run great. The game recommends 8gb of ram. I'm assuming that is my issue for game crashes besides normal Alpha crashes.
Are these addons plug and play? Can I buy the additional memory and snap it in, and just start playing right away? Or is this a more complicated process?

Any tips for products to buy for this or installation tips would be appreciated. Or if you think I should install more memory. I'm not sure what the max is on this laptop but I think 16gb. Thanks

Before upgrading your RAM, try to see how much RAM the game is using (while you are playing the game), if you noticed a high RAM usage, then you should upgrade it, but if the usage was normal them most likely you need to upgrade your GPU.

BTW, what GPU are you using?

It's an ASUS laptop, ATI Radion HD 5870
