This is either a good thing or a bad thing. I accidentally stepped
on lava wearing water-walking boots. They instantly vaporized, but it gave
me a turn to step out of the lava. Otherwise it would've been baaaaaaaad.

Next time, try fireproofing your water-walking boots. (You'll also need
fire resistance yourself.)

If they are fire-proof you can actually walk on lava, but your potions
will still boil and scrolls burn and you will take damage, unless
fire-resistant.

....which provides for a pretty cool mental image, if you ask me. The
idea of an adventurer fearlessly striding over a pool of lava just
seems infinitely more impressive than one walking on water.

I once had a valk that had not found a means of levitation before the
quest, but was easily able to have fireproof WW boots. It was fun.

Indeed 🙂 And with all the bottles popping their corks or exploding and
scrolls and items of clothing catching fire, he'd look like some
mythological monster or mad scientist from straight out of Marvel
Comics. (I've always envisioned my characters with their potions and
scrolls hanging in strings from their shoulders, or around their neck,
or from their belt. I think this must be because I once saw a caricature
of a 16th century travelling apothecary, bedecked with all the utensils
of his trade in like fashion)
