I have an Asus Rog Strix RTX 2080 ti and a water block and back plate from EK. I checked pre water block the GPU works fine. Once I put the water block on, it stops being detected/working. I put the stock cooler back on and it works fine again. What could be doing this? There are no leaks. However, it looks like the thermal padding could be leaving behind some residue. First GPU that I RMA'd worked for a few hours before a hard reset on the machine and then the GPU was not detected when it came back up.

I would consider that back plate does not short something, also that water block mounting does not over pressure when you tighten it up which can bend the GPU core and PCB.
it is the backplate. I kept it off, no problems. I just tried putting pvc washer inbetween the backplate and the pcb and i have it on and it's working. It' snot in the manual to put pvc washer there though. so I don't know
