Ok, I'm new here, but I have read through the site countless times. This time I just couldn't get right on a subject that is so redundant it should be labeled as spam.

Anyway. I am building a HTPC for my kids and I've decided to go overkill/budget. Several online psu watt calculators have determined that the following set up powered on 24/7 would draw 58w at idle. 196w at load and they recommend a min 280w supply.

So here is what I am building. But first keep in mind that this started out as a simple HTPC build and kept escalating.

Antec Earthwatts 380W.
ASRock Z97 mATX OC Formula 1150 Board.
Intel Pen G3250 (for now).
Aftermarket Cooler. Something with a good Heatsink and Low Profile.
Kingston Hyper X Fury 1333 4GB (for now)
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD (for system only)
Western Digital Black 2TB (for media)
MSI GFORCE GTX 750ti
2x 120mm case fans.

No Optical drive for now. I'll only need one to load up Windows 10 and then I take it out.. .....I have my reasons.

Wireless Logitech Keyboard with trackpad.

This will all be plugged into a 50inch Samsung 4k LED TV.

Sooooooo..

Is the 380w Antec appropriate for this application even though Several sites recommend 280w min?????

I noticed there were no factors involving monitor sizes and definitions.

Will the 50inch 4k TV have a noticeable effect on power consumption????

When I do decide to drop the 4690k in there. I was thinking about. A Corsair CX 430 M.

I am really big on efficiency.

Solution

it's an old, entry level basic power supply unit. will perform as such. it will run the pc...but keep an upgrade in mind.
is the antec psu recycled of will you be buying new? if you're buying new, try the seasonic s12g 450 psu. no corsair cx series - those are low end.

as for cooler, noctua NH L9i or NH L12.

if your case has some height (i.e. clearance for small tower coolers), cryorig h7.

the display won't affect the pc's power consumption much. the pc's power consumption will be typically higher than that of with a 1080p display.

Solution

no problem.

when you didn't post exact specs of the card, i just wanted to make sure you got the right size for your case. since you're using a slim desktop case, a standard size card will not fit inside it. you'll need a gfx card with narrower pcb and a compatible bracket as well. these are usually called low profile cards and low profile brackets. some cards have low profile pcb but only includes the standard bracket - which makes finding and adding a low profile bracket a hassle. so make sure that your card either has the low profile bracket out of the box or includes one. here is another one (sorry couldn't find a u.s. link)
