I'm going to be building my very first pc soon and I recently started hearing about static electricity. I read a bunch of forums and I want to know if my ways (if correct) could prevent any static electricity when building my pc. The first one is touching a faucet. I've seen this one a couple of times, but I don't know if it's effective. The second one (the one I'm probably going to try) is connecting the PSU and having it switched in the off position and just touch it once in a while. Any other suggestions is much appreciated.

A wise investment if building computers is an anti-static wrist band.

Example

Put it on your wrist, clip to the CLEAN METAL part of your tower, and work away. It may be inconvenient if you move...
Static electricity is caused by a voltage difference between two objects, like you and your PC components. Usually happens by polarization, like you rubbing your feet on a carpet, combing your hair with a plastic comb, rubbing some kind of rubber or plastic material on you, cloths, etc. Stuff that is non-conductive/insulating.

Best way to quickly get rid of static electricity is to touch something conductive like your PC case or some metallic object, not your motherboard or CPU though!

Put it on your wrist, clip to the CLEAN METAL part of your tower, and work away. It may be inconvenient if you move around a lot though, so ensure that you make a habit of checking that it is still attached firmly to the computer.
